Dear friends, dear interested,
The European Green Deal is the biggest environmental and climate protection programme that the European Union has ever launched. And this milestone for nature conservation, climate protection and the circular economy is in grave danger! The new right-wing and conservative majority in the European Parliament and in the EU member states is putting pressure on Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In the coming weeks, she intends to present proposals to significantly undermine the Green Deal. And this is just the beginning. Because more are to follow! The so-called “omnibus” proposals are a veritable festival of the polluters’ lobby.
That is why MEPs Anna Cavazzini, Jutta Paulus & Michael Bloss and I have launched an appeal: Save the Green Deal! We were all involved in pushing through the Green Deal legislation and now we need your help to defend and develop it.

If tens of thousands sign, it will send a clear signal that will help us in the debates in Brussels.
Thank you very much for any support!
With determined European greetings
Sven Giegold

Defend the Green Deal from the polluters’ lobby!
The European Green Deal is the most significant environmental and climate protection programme the European Union has ever launched. It is a real milestone for nature conservation, climate protection and the circular economy. In the last five years, 38 EU laws have been adopted to make Europe more climate-friendly and economically sustainable. Their implementation will take Europe a considerable step forward in climate protection and transitioning to a sustainable economy.
However, the ambitious roadmap to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 is under threat from the Europe-wide shift to the right.
An alliance of right-wingers and conservatives in the EU Parliament and EU member states is putting pressure on Ursula von der Leyen. The Commission President intends to present proposals that will significantly undermine the Green Deal in the coming weeks. And this is just the beginning. More is to follow! The so-called ‘omnibus’ proposals are a veritable festival for the polluters’ lobby. Under the guise of reducing bureaucracy, the EU Commission wants to gut the Green Deal systematically. The end of new climate-damaging combustion engine cars is just as much at risk as protecting fundamental human rights through the European Supply Chain Act. The EU Commission does not even want to enforce existing legislation for the expansion of renewable energies.
This attack on the Green Deal not only jeopardises the basis of our survival but also the future of a prosperous European economy.
We demand:
- Strengthen the Green Deal! No rollback of environmental and climate policies. Instead of undermining the Green Deal, we want to develop it further to systematically orient Europe towards climate neutrality, nature-friendly agriculture, a circular economy, and zero pollution as quickly as possible.
- Socially just environmental and climate policy. Shape the implementation of the Green Deal in such a way that it equally pursues social justice and economic strength. This will bring secure jobs, good wages and a sustainable economy!
- Simplification instead of trickery! Reducing unnecessary bureaucracy must not be misused to undermine the goals for nature conservation, climate protection and the circular economy!
