The European Green Deal is the biggest leap forward for climate protection, the circular economy and biodiversity since the founding of the European Union. 38 EU laws have been adopted in recent years, taking Europe a big step forward in climate protection and towards a sustainable economy.
However, following the political shift to the right in many member states and in the European Parliament, there is now a threat of an unprecedented rollback.
In the coming weeks, Ursula von der Leyen’s EU Commission intends to present comprehensive proposals to undermine the Green Deal. The so-called “omnibus” proposals are a veritable festival for the polluter lobby. Under the guise of cutting red tape, she is now ready to harm the Green Deal. The end for new climate-damaging combustion engine cars is just as much at risk as the protection of fundamental human rights through the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Dilligence Directive (CSDDD). The EU Commission is also refusing to enforce existing legislation on the expansion of renewable energies.
This attack on the Green Deal does not only jeopardize the basis for our survival but also the future of a successful European economy.
The forthcoming German federal elections are crucial for the future of the Green Deal, because, without the support of the next German government, the Green Deal will be reversed.
We were involved in the decision-making of the Green Deal in Fridays for Future, the European Parliament and the German Federal Government in various roles. Now we want to join forces to raise awareness of the new attacks on the Green Deal: The Green Deal is in danger! We must defend it. Come along to our kick-off webinar!
