Dear friends, dear interested,

Negotiations are currently in full swing on the next EU budget and the Corona reconstruction programme. The EU has never seen such a large and ambitious budget. But the Corona crisis has also torn large holes in the national budgets of EU member states and the European Union. Billions of new debts are being taken out for Corona recovery programmes.

At the same time, at least 200 billion euros are lost to the member states every year through criminal tax fraud and money laundering – according to estimates by the EU Commission. Still, several important proposals for better tax cooperation have been blocked in the Council of Member States for years. Member States and the Commission must take decisive action.

That is why, together with 65 personalities from science and society, we have made concrete proposals in our Italian-German appeal “Financing the Corona reconstruction programme by curbing tax dumping and money laundering”. This appeal is already supported by more than 4000 EU citizens.

Roberto Gualtieri and Olaf Scholz, the Finance Ministers of Italy and Germany, have agreed to discuss this appeal and the measures with you and us. Italy is one of the worst hit countries in the Corona crisis. Germany’s current Council presidency on the other hand, now offers the opportunity to make decisive progress against tax dumping and money laundering.

We want to know: What do the two Ministers think of our proposals? And how can we achieve implementation?
