Dear friends, dear experts,
The new Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance will meet next Thursday for the first time. It is now the fourth separate committee dealing with this topic in the European Parliament. We have thus increased public pressure and given the issue a stage in Parliament. This time the focus will be on examining the Paradise Papers and combating money laundering. The committees have contributed to the fact that the EU Commission and the Council of the member states have already adopted several legal measures to gradually drain the tax swamp in Europe.
Yesterday, my colleagues re-elected me as coordinator of the Greens/EFA Group in the special committee. In the next few days we will adopt the committee’s work plan in cooperation with the other political groups.
Please, send us your ideas for studies, witnesses and topics that we should work on. We are particularly pleased about concrete (!) references until Tuesday, 21 March.
