Italian and Spanish banks and Panama Papers in the European Parliament

Dear correspondents,
Dear journalists,

Tomorrow financial crime and new banking subsidies will be high on the agenda of the European Parliament.

We will hold behind closed doors hearings with Commissioner Vestager and with the chair of the European Single Resolution Board Elke König at 8.15 am and at 3 pm respectively. At 4 pm a public hearing in the ECON committee with Elke König will follow. All this shows: The European Parliament is serious to shed light on potential breaches of EU law and maladministration in the context of Italian and Spanish banks.

At 2 pm the Panama Papers inquiry continues tomorrow with a meeting with the Finance Ministers of Germany, Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands. The PANA Committee will welcome Finance Ministers Wolfgang SCHÄUBLE (DE), Paschal DONOHOE (IE), Pier Carlo PADOAN (IT) and Jeroen DIJSSELBLOEM (NL) to discuss the follow-up of the Panama Papers in their respective countries and to hear their take on the problems as well on the initiatives that are being undertaken by the Commission in the field of taxation and anti-money laundering.

The meeting, from 14h00 to 15h30 in room PHS 5B001, can be livestreamed here:
