The British House of Commons has passed a bill to end the free movement of European workers. Sven Giegold, spokesman for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in the European Parliament, explains:
“The decision against the free movement of workers comes at a bad moment. Brexit acts as an additional brake pad in the corona crisis. If the UK rejects the free movement of workers it cannot get free capital movement. Closing the borders for people but keeping them open for capital would be unacceptable. The four European fundamental freedoms only exist as a package. The EU must stand firm in its negotiations with Britain on the unity of the four fundamental freedoms.”
