Malta Delegation: The Rule of Law Monitoring Group continues with investigations

Dear correspondents and journalists,

Next week, from Wednesday 19th September until Thursday 20th September, I will visit Malta as part of a delegation of the Rule of Law Monitoring Group (ROLMG) of the European Parliament. We will meet the Attorney General Dr Peter Grech, representatives of NGOs active in the field of rule of law and fight against corruption as well as journalists who have not let themselves be silenced in reporting about the problems at stake in Malta. We are still awaiting final confirmation from Police Commissioner Lawrence Gutajar, Konrad Mizzi (Minister for Tourism), Owen Bonnici (Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government) and several others whom we would like to ask questions about involvement of high-rank officials in the Panama Papers and the lack of prosecution.

On Thursday 20th September at 13h30 a press conference will be held on the impressions and findings that we made. If you are interested to get more insights into my visit, please, have a look at the detailed programme (updated on 17 September 2018) or feel free to contact me or my office either via sven.giegold@ep.europa.eu or via landline +32 2 28 45369.

Best regards,

MEP Sven Giegold

Financial and economic policy spokesperson of the Greens/EFA group

Member of the Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance (TAX3)

P.S.: As always I would be interested in any facts or issues around the objective of our mission to Malta as well as intelligent questions to ask during the visit.
