PRESS CONFERENCE: Bahamas / Panama Leaks AND Greens/EFA MEPs launch whistleblowing platform

The first meeting of the Committee of Inquiry into Money Laundering, Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion (PANA) will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, September 27). The Committee will hear from the investigative journalists of the ICIJ who originally uncovered the Panama Papers.

Following the Panama Committee session, I invite you to attend the launch of our project „EU Leaks“. Whistleblowers, such as Antoine Deltour, already contributed a lot in uncovering wrong doing. The Luxembourg Leaks contributed enormously to the fight for tax justice and revealed institutional failure in tax dumping.
However, a European law for the protection of whistleblowers is still missing. To give whistleblowers a secure platform to uncover maladministration in the EU or shortcomings in the implementation of EU law in the member states, me along with other members of the Group of the Greens / EFA set up the online platform www.euleaks.eu. On the platform, whistleblowers can upload documents securely and anonymously: Technically and legally, we have pulled all strings possible so that employees of banks, national administration and the European Commission can forward any deficits with as little risk as possible.
Therefore, I invite warmly to tomorrows press conference, where I, together with Philippe Lamberts, and the other participating MEPs in the project, will be there to answer your questions regarding the platform.
