I am pleased to report to you that the budgetary control committee (CONT) has just started the investigation into the appointment of Martin Selmayr. Below you find the e-mail that has been sent by the CONT secretariat to all members. The political groups are now expected to collect written questions until next Monday. Any hints from you as well as from civil society are welcome.
In addition to that the CONT committee will also vote on the discharge of the Commission’s budget. Greens in the European Parliament are calling for a halt of this discharge procedure.
My take on this:
“The public has a right know whether the appointment of Martin Selmayr was in line with EU law. Furthermore: Until the Commission does not change its internal procedures for such important positions the Parliament should not grat discharge to the Commission’s budget.”

Dear Members,
During the debate on Monday, 12 March 2018 the Plenary requested that CONT committee should investigate further the appointment of the Secretary General of the Commission.
As a follow-up to this request, you are invited on behalf of the Chair to send questions to the CONT secretariat to be asked to the Commission President.
The item will be put to the agenda of the next meeting of the coordinators on Monday, 19 March 2018.
Please send your questions at latest by Monday, 19 March 2018, 12.00.
